Is The DRZ400SM Amazon Carburetor Any Good???
Просмотров 55421 день назад
For $120 we had to find out, especially since the drz still lives in 1999 and we frequently have carb related issues with our fleet. We try the amazon carb with a "stage 2 jet kit" as well as stock and figure out how to get it dialed! fyi this is not a sponsored or affiliate linked video, mostly because we're not smart enough to know how to do that kinda stuff...

Don't Ride Foot Out Or Kneedown???
Просмотров 11 тыс.8 месяцев назад
In our experience most riders do way too much on the bike. Too much movement and too many inputs. Combine that with watching the fastest riders in the world staying put on the bike made us ask the question, should we just ride neutral all the time??? Hope you can join us for a school day. Quick Tip: Wheelies with Socal Coach Sylvia
Well, I wouldn't expect any issues, when you buy new bike... A few of my friends ride FS450, they seem to be quite reliable, when regular maitenance is provided - this is not DR-Z when you may not care about it as much. Hope you will enjoy it long time!
True about doing the maintenance, you gotta do it on these bikes & it's too much money not to take care but the things about the DRz is exactly why I'm looking at it to buy. But Yamaha/Honda offer some bikes that you don't need to check the top end for 20,000 miles...... that's a great selling point for those w/o the ability or money to do higher end maint. type stuff..... peace
And what’s the best for more flow?
And for street the same?
How good do the stock DRZ SM Rims hold up on jumps etc. ? Do they bend or break easy ? Or are you using aftermarket rims ?
They're phenomonal. Nobody hammers and jumps drz wheels more than us and they hold up awesome!
Good review
thanks!
I'd want good quality pads on any bike..... stopping is arguably the most important function so having pads that work well & last are essential to safe riding, in my humble opinion. Thanks for the review. peace
Same same! The point here is to not assume a pad is good of bad based on price. I absolutely hate those red carbon ebc pads. personal faves are the galfer sintered. They just always work well
You Sir are an expert in bikes... lol, I'm old & looking to buy soon but my knowledge concerning brakes is just common sense. Stopping is Critical !! I'm curious about the aluminum rotors used on bikes ; do they have any problems like getting bent easy or warping due to heat? Thought I'd ask someone who pushes parts to the extreme..... peace & thanks for posting up
DRZ or DR650 conversion or XR650 conversion or Husqvarna 510 msr?
Track pupper! I run $12 Rock auto brake pads on my truck, I won't skimp on Motorcycle pads though.
With our brake pad budget we atleast had to try em!
Obviously they suck))
I mean my Amazon jet kit and foot pegs are amazing!😅
Love to make it out to ride one day
Such a cool and concise advice Brian!! I’ll be going in pretty soon !!!
as someone who is getting into the "foot out" style but not coming from a dirt background, what is the actual benefits of having the foot out? i understand that most people say knee out vs foot out which is actually code for inside body position (motogp style) vs counterleaning. what does putting the foot out actually do? I know when i counterlean i do tend to start putting the foot out now but i wonder if i instinctive do it or am just trying to copy other people. also when you right turn you cant really foot out because of rear brakes, unless you have hand controls.
Yep. You only need to look at S1GP to see all styles. Old guard like Chareyre favour foot-out but new fast guys like Cortes are knee-down a lot and quite a few are neutral - even MRS. There's a huge upset in balance when you move on a SM - all that travel makes a big shift which slows you down I think. My crappy times were always better neutral, with a little knee (more head) coming out of long sweeps -just to get the gas on earlier.
Can I ask you if it’s worth if getting a supermoto? I’ve been really interested in one but I just can’t seem to pull the trigger. I’ve got three bikes right now, Sportster S, Z H2 and TNT135
Supermoto is for sure worth it!
100% worth it if you've got a go-kart track nearby. 450cc motards are the closest cousin of motogp bikes. So many G's, so much 2 wheel drifting that somehow doesn't feel sketchy. If 20 hour valve jobs aren't your thing, the DRZ is an absolute riot too.
Oh man once you get a supermoto the others will just sit there. Do it!!!
@@socalsupermoto which supermotos would you recommend? I’ve been looking at the ktm/husq/gasgas trio vs the ducati 698. Should I even start with those or go with something else? Thanks for all the help!
The best advice ever. Lucky American mates who have the chance to attend your lessons in person.
Fly over to the colonies and ride w us!!
@@socalsupermoto It's a bit of a long and expensive trip from Australia, but man, if granted, I won't miss the chance to ride with you.
Is there a traction disadvantage from raised foot pegs? With neutral / upper body leaned off position, there isn't enough room for the foot + footpegs at speed. I have to take my foot off the pegs, or the side of the boot and peg scrape the tarmac. The tires feel like they have grip remaining, there's just stuff in the way of carrying more speed pushing 60 degrees :-/
if you're dragging pegs you have a few options. First thing is faster transitions. That's the best trick for spending less time at maximum lean and tightening up lines. Faster transtitions allow you to carry more average lean while having less maximum lean and it's the most under talked about thing in supermoto. 2) get more nuetral and don't push the bike down so hard, basically start leaning at the same rate as teh bike like the nuetral s1gp riders. 3) after doing that sure get some higher pegs. all good just not always comfy
@@socalsupermoto Makes a lot of sense, thank you!!
Are those dunlop q5s ?
Yup!!! Soooo good!!
@@socalsupermoto what size would you recomend for mountian twisties and street riding ?
@@miniman1448 120/150 is gonna get it done!
@@socalsupermoto thanks !! Does 150 require any modification ? Also can these tires be ran on the stock rim. I believe there tubed.
@@miniman1448 fits, tube is fine, go rock!
Do they get lowered like a flattracker?
Nope stock height!
Question: does this advice apply to SM bikes on all tracks and roads, or SM tracks only?
pretty much all roads, you see the same mistakes
@@socalsupermoto thanks ☺️ So to be clear: if I am riding street/twisties and my gixxer buddy is leaning like Rossi, I'm riding supermoto gonna turn like you showed in this video, body more upright, etc? I'm new to SM so wanna practice the right method from day 1. I'm certain people will say "why you don't lean inside?", my answer is "because this supermoto 😁".
I know the DRZ has been pretty much the same all these years.... looking at an 07... are there years to avoid or send it?
send it!
Hey what rear size tires is best 150/60/17 or 140/70/17 ?
on a drz 150 dunlop q5s. boom
120$ by the time Tarrifs kicked in, it will be 102 k Doll hairs :D We all be riding horses soon if the Government gets its way
Careful that might turn into the 2nd fastest production bike ever made!
I love my DRZ so naturally I had to subscribe to the socalsupermoto channel. So fun watching you guys enjoy the DRZ
Yew! stoked to have you!
This video should be attempted again 3 years later.
I’m 5’6 what’s the smallest 2 stroke supermoto
I'm just looking to buy a bike & the difference I see is the YZ is gonna require a lot more attention if I understood correctly? For the average dummy like me, changing oil & doing valve checks isn't my strong point. I think how road friendly & maint free it is is more attractive. If I wanted, "Fast"... I'd want the YZ. We like to compare but reliable & low maint is what most people want. Thanks for the videos, now I know you guys. peace
If street just get the drz! Or a wr250x
Ahh, yes.... both those are high up on my list although the DRZ's are plentiful which might be a good thing at my current stage. Thanks for taking the time, I do appreciate it. peace
Which super moto/ dual sport do you think is close to equal to performance on and off road? I'm looking to do dirt riding with the family but I need to sell my xsr900 to help pay for machines and a trailer. I know I won't get the same street performance as the xsr but I want to get as close to it without sacrificing off road capability as well. I plan to run two sets of wheels and tires one for each discipline. I'm just trying to get as close to the best of all worlds as possible in terms of power, handling, and maintenence/ durability. I've been riding on the street for almost 20yrs but have little dirt experience. I'm also looking for fuel injecting so please don't say drz 😂
In other words, it comes naturally the faster you go and applying the same deceleration concepts you learned while at a slow pace :D Front Brake progressive and hard, your shifting down and releasing clutch gently, your rear wheel will get light, and as you turn your rear will step out :D technically on hard deceleration, rear brakes are usesles :D
That is awesome.
A KLX450SM would be killer…..
I do feel like as a beginner going for the hard braking then shifting your weight sorta off the bike to put your knees down makes the bike a bit unstable if you can’t do it smooth enough
I bought klx 300 n love it . I did shinko 244 on it n did 200 mile single track last year n also go to work all summer n on weekend go to long rides . Cheap n fun bike . For trail riding my gearing was 14 42 . For street 14 37 . I am 210 n my bike toped out 98 miles n can do highway 70 to 75 all day
Euro definitely feels more natural to me. Less effort, smoother, overall I’m quicker that way. Less crashing too lmao.
Inspired to be like him
How many rebuilds has it had?
I prefer feet on but I don’t stay neutral I move around, like you do with your foot out
Like the actual fast guys, I've been playing around with keeping them on the pegs. I havn't compared times because I just don't care anymore, but It has been fun!
@@socalsupermoto awesome I love your videos I learn more from them than any other ones! It’s so hard to find videos on supermoto lately

great video

I got a DRZ400sm and I love her. Does everything I need and a lil extra
that's all i really ride these days :)
Do you think a cheap full exhaust would be ok,do you recommend any filter air, just bought one and it seems choked by the stock muffler nice vid thanks
some bikes have super restrictive headers, but the drz isn't bad. For my bike I'd buy a stage two jet kit and a slip on and call it a day. do not do the 3x3 mod.
@socalsupermoto Thanks i appreciate the advice,Thats what i will do
I think you should do this again, but the bars you have are mounted fairly low and really far back. Looks for some bar not quite so low, but even with the triple clamp. This setup should actually help you to get much more weight on the front. Your setup is so low and back, you have to sit up and hide from them. No weight on the front, and it won't steer. Just shop and get some cheap $15.00 steel bars for testing.
We're done with this experiment :) Weight on the front isn't the name of the game in supermoto, so many new riders struggle with trying to weight the front. You'll notice most pro riders have their hips forward and their shoulders back or nuetral. Anyway it was fun for a day to try
Does the e gasket and cams make a big difference?
yep. I like a e gasket and cams but wouldn't bother with the gasket until i had to do engine work. E cams are great, esp if you lie the revvy rev
Had a great time last weekend at Socal Supermoto school. Thank you, Brian, for teaching us some awesome new moto skills and making the class enjoyable.
Any time! stoked to have you back!!!
I have a tw200 should I swap up to a TTR or one of these for Kart Track days.
I've done plenty of laps on a tw, always a good time!
Probably not everyone’s thing but I strapped 2 large sheepskins over the the original factory seat one on top of the other with a horse saddle gel pad underneath. Really comfy for wheelies and around town
hooligan comfort package!
Does this mean you kept a couple TRR's in the fleet? 🤞
There's one left for now...
still one!!!
